Jesus “If therefore you are offering your gift at the altar, and there remember that your brother has anything against you, leave your gift there before the altar, and go your way. First be reconciled to your brother, and then come and offer your gift. Agree with your adversary quickly, while you are with him in the way; lest perhaps the prosecutor deliver you to the judge, and the judge deliver you to the officer, and you be cast into prison. Most certainly I tell you, you shall by no means get out of there, until you have paid the last penny.” Matthew 5:23-26

Note: A judge is state employee and is required is issue the verdict according to the judgment of the jury (if there is one) and according to law. Jesus proposes alternatives to dispute resolution that may benefit the defendant as well as the plaintiff such as mediation. This allows a less adversary way of resolving the dispute and allows maintenance of the relationship of the parties, and fulfill “love you brother as yourself” and in reconciliation is your gift at the altar a good gift to God. jb

Cicero “For it often happens, owing to exceptional circumstances, that what is accustomed under ordinary circumstances to be considered morally wrong is found not to be morally wrong. For the sake of illustration, let us assume some particular case that admits of wider application — what more atrocious crime can there be than to kill a fellow-man, and especially an intimate friend? But if anyone kills a tyrant — be he never so intimate a friend — he has not laden his soul with guilt, has he?”

Keeping the Sabbath [7th Day] is the 4th commandment. This commandment is not a holiday, but a day for holy assemblies. Holy assemblies are public assemblies for doing the work of public business by the people for the people. On this day the people are to review the law of the land and the magistrates who execute them. It is a day of election and citizenship training day. The Sabbath day God gave to His people so that they may be vigilant over the use of public authority and to direct that authority in order to improve their communities. The American people need the Sabbath; it is their seat of their authority; it is the fourth branch of government, and to neglect of the Sabbath, the cornerstone of free republic, is the cause of the abuse and misuse of civil power by unaccountable public agents. The Sabbath is so essential to the right use of the police and military powers of the state that God has instituted the death penalty for its violation. This is perfectly sensible when we consider it is the misuse of civil power by an unaccountable public agents that has led to the great atrocities within the human community

Burdens upon Public Officials

James 3;1 “Let not many of you be teachers, my brothers, knowing that we will receive heavier judgment.” (WEB)

John of Salisbury says because the license of officials is greater, as they can plunder and molest private persons under the pretext of official business, any encroachment contrary to duty is punished with heavier fines.  105
